Avoca man charged with assault in shotgun shooting that injured a 61-year-old

New York State Police charged an Avoca man Monday with a shotgun shooting that injured one person.

Bath-based troopers were called to 61090 Route 415 in the town of Avoca after a third-party report that "a neighbor just shot their friend."

According to a New York State Police investigation, 66-year-old Willie C. Faniel shot a 61-year-old man with a shotgun at the Route 415 address at about 6:20 p.m.

The injured man, who troopers said is also from Avoca, was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Police did not release his name or the extent of his injuries.

Faniel was charged with felony assault with a weapon with the intent to cause serious injury. He was taken to the Steuben County jail for CAP arraignment.

Information about Faniel's next court date was not immediately released.
