Avengers' Russo brothers keen to direct DCU Batman movie

Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo have expressed their interest in directing a new iteration of Batman for the DCU.

While Matt Reeves' Dark Knight saga will be continued in The Batman Part II, DC's new co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran announced earlier this year that they're working on their own film about the cape crusader, titled The Brave and the Bold.

A director for the film hasn't been announced yet, but the Russo brothers have said that they would be open to taking the helm.

Speaking to Comicbook.com about potentially joining the Worlds of DC, Joe said: "Obviously James with over there running it, it would be a no-brainer. We love him to death.

"We love the direction he's going to take that world in. You know he's gonna be inventive with it. And favourite DC characters? I mean, man. There are so many good ones.

"I always answer based on the comics I collected as a kid, and the two comics I collected the most were Spider-Man — actually, the three — were Spider-Man, X-Men and Batman. But there have been a lot of iterations of Batman, so I feel like that's an obvious answer."

Anthony then added: "But, you know, it's hard not to answer that.

"Here's how you know we haven't actually gotten literal about it and specific about it is because, yeah, Batman would be my favourite character for my entire childhood. But obviously, it's been well explored."

The Brave and the Bold will serve as the introduction to the DCU's Batman. It's said to be taking inspiration from Grant Morrison's Batman comics, in which Bruce Wayne discovers a son he never knew he had.

The Batman is available to buy now on 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray and DVD.
