The city of Austin, Texas has responded to the rumors about an NFL franchise potentially relocating to the city.

On Sunday, rumors surfaced, suggesting the Buffalo Bills could threaten a move to Texas if they don’t get the stadium funding they want.

Buffalo is reportedly seeking more than $1 billion in public money for a new stadium. It seems unlikely that the franchise will get it.

“The public would provide an unprecedented 100%, according to multiple sources who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the high sensitivity of the early stage of negotiations,” the Buffalo News reported.

ESPN NFL insider Seth Wickersham reported that the Bills might threaten a move to Austin.

“An ownership source tells me that Austin is a possible destination—or threat—as one of the ‘other cities elsewhere that desire an NFL franchise and would pay handsomely for it,’” he reported on Sunday.

Austin, Texas does not seem to be aware of this, though.

“Austin City Council members I’ve spoken with today tell me this is the first they’ve heard about the Buffalo Bills considering moving to Austin. Austin FC, conversely, engaged council members early on before coming here. We’ll see what happens,” reporter Ryan Autullo reports.

It also seems unlikely that the state of Texas’ other NFL owners – Jerry Jones and the McNair family – would be in favor of a team in Austin.

However, we’ll see what happens.
