FOND DU LAC — Aurora's newly expanded medical center on Fond du Lac's east side is almost finished.

Aurora Medical Center, 210 Wisconsin American Drive, will open for patient care May 6, and the public is invited to tour the space ahead of its opening from 4 to 7 p.m. April 25, according to a news release from Aurora Health Care.

Construction began in 2022 on a 70,000-square foot expansion of what was previously called Advocate Aurora Health, adding an eight-bay emergency department; 10 overnight stay beds for patients needing orthopedic, general and abdominal surgeries; an operating and recovery area; pharmacy; and diagnostics and lab.

More than 65 clinicians will represent 28 medical specialties, including urgent care, physical therapy and outpatient surgery.

However, more advanced centers, such as the Oshkosh location, will continue to take care of sub-specialty procedures, including labor and delivery, cardiac catherization and stroke interventional procedures.

Jeff Bard, president of Aurora Medical Center's Oshkosh and Fond du Lac campuses and Aurora Health Care North Wisconsin Area, said it's important health care not only be high quality, but also be local.

"We recognize that many residents have been traveling for health care services and we want to ensure that we have convenient access to health care in this community," he said in the news release.

In addition to tours, the open house will include health and wellness activities, light refreshments, and opportunities to meet local doctors and connect as a community.
