Augusta city attorney Wayne Brown resigns

Augusta’s General Council resigned Tuesday, effective immediately.

Mayor Garnett Johnson announced the decision at the beginning of commission committee meetings.

No reason was given for the Wayne Brown’s resignation. He will receive a six-month severance package, and will be available to assist during the transition, Garnett said.

The mayor thanked Brown for his 16 years of service.

Brown did not immediately return a message left Wednesday.
