Ashland commissioners to meet Thursday morning

At a recent Ashland County commissioners meeting, the board approved updated rules and regulations pertaining to the new Dog Shelter, including a euthanasia policy.

“What we’re doing is changing and accepting the rules and regulations for the operations of the new dog shelter,” Commissioner Denny Bittle said during the meeting. “Obviously, the rules and regulations of that building [are] way different from the old building. So those are an upgrade in the changes to that manual.”

The euthanasia policy reads, “Dogs that have been at the shelter for more than one year will be euthanized.”

Commissioners voted unanimously in favor of the rule change, which went into effect Tuesday. The new rules are available here.

The $3 million dog shelter opened in September and can hold up to 69 dogs.

The commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday on the second floor of the Ashland County Office Building, 110 Cottage St.

According to the Ashland County Government's website, the public is welcome to attend and comment during commissioner meetings. Comments are limited to three minutes per person and must pertain to topics and business items that have been discussed at the meeting.

The public will have 10 minute to address an issue providing the topic to be discussed is presented to the board clerk noon the day before the meeting.

If the deadline is not met, commissioners will meet individually with people after the current meeting is adjourned.

For those who cannot attend the meeting, a video of the session will be posted on the Ashland, OH County Government Facebook page.
