ASHEVILLE - Last year saw some of the highest priced home sales in Buncombe County history, where realtors sold two record-setting $9.6 million and $7 million homes, amid high inventory for the mountain-top mansions.

In January 2024, homes featuring historic details or a "four-by-four dog tunnel" were among those selling anywhere from $2 to $3 million, according to CanopyMLS.

At the same time, the region faces the highest median sales prices have increased 53% since 2019, setting a record median sales price of $485,000 for Buncombe County.

In January 2024, the luxury housing market was coming off a period of high inventory, where late 2023 market reports indicated that more luxury homes were on the market than any other type of home. Many sell well-above their county tax appraisal, as reported by the Citizen Times.
