Northeastern US to face new downpours as week begins
While the weekend will start on a pleasant note for most, a new round of rain and thunderstorms will sweep through the northeastern United States from Sunday to Monday.
The same storm set to unleash a severe weather outbreak across the South could play spoiler for outdoor activities in some Northeast communities as the weekend comes to a close.
The good news is that Sunday will not be a complete washout for all, with dry weather expected for much of the day across a good portion of the mid-Atlantic and southeastern New England.

This includes along the Interstate-95 corridor from Washington, D.C., to Boston.
The upper Ohio Valley to the eastern Great Lakes will be the main corridor of storminess during the day on Sunday.
Severe storms can even threaten parts of Ohio, western Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia.
"The storms are expected to lose their intensity as they cross the central Appalachians and approach the Atlantic Coast later Sunday night to Monday," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.
Despite the likelihood of damage decreasing as the area of rain and thunderstorms marches toward the I-95 corridor after dark, the storms can still pack a punch in terms of heavy rainfall and thunder loud enough to startle sleeping pets and residents.
A general 0.50-2 inches of rain can fall across the Northeast during this event, with locally higher amounts in any robust storms.
"It is possible that enough rain will fall on part of upstate New York and northern New England, where there is still a substantial amount of snow on the ground, to cause urban and small stream flooding late Sunday into Monday," Sosnowski said.
Those with homes in low-lying or flood prone areas near rivers and streams should be prepared to take action if water levels rise.

While a sweep of drier, windy and cooler weather will move into the mid-Atlantic behind the storm on Monday, rain will pester New England for much of the day, which is not good news for those participating in the Boston Marathon.
Enough cold air may move in high above the ground to allow for wet snowflakes to fall in a few locales.
A mixture of rain and snow is possible across the interior Northeast and eastern Great Lakes early on Monday, according to AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok.
Snow showers could spread into Maine Monday night into Tuesday.
