Fan celebrates Cubs' World Series win in cemetery for tearjerking reason
Cubs fans have waited a long time to win a World Series –- 108 years, to be exact. For some, that's an entire lifetime. Others, however, never got to experience a title.
Wayne Williams made an agreement with his dad long ago. When the Cubs eventually made it to the World Series, they promised they were going to watch the game together.
But Williams' dad, also named Wayne, passed away in 1980 --- 36 years before the Cubs would finally win the World Series again.
So instead of bailing on his promise to his late father, the younger Wayne Williams drove all the way from North Carolina to an Indianapolis suburb where his dad was laid to rest. He listened to the entire 10-inning game at his father's grave.
"I talked it out with my boys forever," Williams told WTHR in an interview. "I let them know that I told my dad - we had a pact. When the Cubs -- not if, when -- the Cubs got into the World Series, we would make sure we listen to the games together."
A kept promise and a sentimental World Series celebration like no other.
