Mets infielder Wilmer Flores isn't ashamed to use the 'Friends' theme as his at-bat music

No one told Wilmer Flores life was gonna be this way. It's like the Mets are always stuck in second gear. It hasn't been their day, their week or month for most of this year.

But Wilmer will be there for you, because the New York Mets infielder is apparently a fanatic of the Friends TV show, and on Sunday used the theme song as his at-bat walk-up music.

Since Friends is the greatest TV show the world has ever known, it led to reporters asking Flores about it after the game. Could this story from ESPN be more terrific?

The 25-year-old from Venezuela paints a picture of himself as a "Friends" addict.

"I don't know. I just can't stop watching it," he said. "I don't know — on the road, when I'm home, every day — I don't want to watch anything else. I don't know why. There's something about that show."

He said he started watching the show four years ago and now believes he has seen every episode. He had trouble singling out a favorite episode but is considering working on a Top 10. Flores would have been just 3 years old when the show debuted in 1994. It ended its run in 2004.

People are always surprised when young people like an old TV show such asFriends. Much like Beethoven and Shakespeare, the true classics never go out of style and resonate through the ages.

If anyone gets a chance to ask him about the show, ask him about the one where Joey is dating Aisha Tyler and he makes a joke about not wanting to visit The Met because the Mets suck.

Hopefully, over time, Flores will come to have all the smart takes about the show. Like Ross being a garbage human who nearly abandoned his pregnant wife while she was in the hospital, tried to kiss his cousin, and attempted to pose as a masseuse so he could run his hands over an unsuspecting woman in his apartment.
