5 reasons we're really excited about the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium

New Falcons stadium to offer affordable concessions

While the new home of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United is under construction, CEO of the AMB Group Stephen Cannon stopped by AOL to discuss the incredible features of the prime sports facility.

You can watch our interview with Cannon below, but here are five things that make us really excited about the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

1. Fan-friendly concession prices

First things first, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium will offer the friendliest prices of any stadium we've seen in a long time.

"You will no longer be gouged," said Cannon.

According to the website, the most you'll spend on a single item is $5:

$2 – Non-alcoholic beverage products with unlimited free refills (at freestanding refill stations)
$2 – Dasani bottled water; hot dogs; pretzels; popcorn
$3 – Peanuts; pizza; nachos; waffle fries
$5 – 12 oz. domestic beer

This game-changing food and beverage pricing is all a part of the "fan experience" the group has in mind – inviting fans of all economic situations into the stadium.

2. Retractable roof

Mercedes-Benz Stadium will have one of the most unique features you've ever seen in a stadium. The roof will be retractable, creating an open environment for that can transform with the push of a button.

3. Premium events

They've put in the work to land three HUGE events in their first five years of operation

First, the College Football Playoff National Championship makes its way to Atlanta in 2018, followed by Super Bowl LIII in 2019 and the 2020 NCAA Men's Final Four.

Fans that travel to these marquee events will have access to a "constellation" of premiere restaurants and entertainment. The property is located mere footsteps away from historic Centennial Olympic Park and a short walk from the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola and the College Football Hall of Fame.

Cannon also noted that there are 10,000 hotel rooms within a mile of the stadium to make for easy, walkable access to the multitude of entertainment in the area.

"We think we have something that will have these events coming year in and year out," Cannon said.

4. It's right in the heart of Atlanta

Cannon said the goal was to be a part of the "fabric of Atlanta." Every stadium built in the past 10 years has built outside of its city into suburbs for financial reasons and feasibility. Cannon said being enveloped in the heart of Atlanta was important to them.

"While it was the harder decision, it was the right decision," said Cannon.

This decision will inspire an approachable, walkable concept around the downtown Atlanta area.

5. It was inspired by the Roman Pantheon

Okay, that's just cool.
