Ex-NFL RB Ricky Williams to open marijuana-friendly gym
Coming this fall to San Francisco, California, a gym will open where marijuana use is encouraged. You heard that right.
Working out and using marijuana may seem like two activities that do not mix well, but Power Plant Fitness is on its way. Also, as a surprise to nobody, former NFL running back Ricky Williams is a partner and spokesman for the gym.
"The venture is the brainchild of Jim McAlpine, the co-founder of the 420 Games, a series of running events developed to de-stigmatize cannabis," according to Greg Rajan of MySanAntonio.
Williams will be the one to run the gym and will, "focus on integrative full body and mind training," according to the news release.
"What makes Power Plant Fitness unique? Members will be able to consume cannabis in the gym while working out. Power Plant also produces a line of "athletic edibles" made for pre-workout focus and post-workout recovery."
Yeah, I would say that is awfully unique.
A look back at the 2016 NFL Draft:
Williams was a Heisman Trophy winning running back at the University of Texas in 1998 and entered the NFL as the fifth overall pick in the 1999 draft. Williams had an up-and-down career with the New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens, but he was always a talented player on the field.
Williams was a known marijuana user during his days, failing multiple drug tests in the league. He was suspended from playing several times and even took an early retirement prior to the 2004 season. He came back the next season, but was suspended for all of 2006 for failing his fourth drug test.
He was able to get his career on track and eventually have a solid and stable NFL career before officially calling it quits following the 2011 season with the Ravens.
Now, living in California where marijuana is legal with a prescription and merely a violation without one, Williams is pretty free to use as much marijuana as he wishes. He is even going to be able to do it while working out in his own gym.
