Chargers QB Justin Herbert looks totally different after first haircut in 2 years

Justin Herbert has spent the last eight weeks as starting quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers, and in that time the world has become very familiar with his look. The 22-year-old has made quite an impression on the NFL world with his chin length brown hair and goatee.

Unfortunately, Herbert decided that he couldn’t look like a Jethro Tull roadie forever. Before his video conference with the media on Wednesday, he got a haircut for the first time in two years. And he emerged looking like an entirely different person.

OK, who is that? It looks like a quarterback from a local high school wandered into the Chargers facility and started taking over Herbert’s life. Did anyone know that Herbert is Doogie Howser the quarterback? Is he Benjamin Button-ing? Will he be a 10-year-old by the time he suits up for Sunday’s game?

The man responsible, according to Herbert, is Chargers strength and conditioning coach John Lott.

Haircut provokes strong reactions

Thanks to Lott’s handiwork with the “clippers,” it’s quite a transformation. People on Twitter were shocked by it. To work through their shock, they did what they always do: make jokes.

Herbert’s decision to have Lott cut his hair was a puzzling one, as many pointed out. Given Lott’s own history of questionable haircuts, he caught a decent amount of flack for his, uh, hair artistry.

Herbert’s cut didn’t get Lott any new customers, at least not on the Chargers.

No matter what anyone thinks, Herbert’s hair is gone. He made the decision to cut it off and it can’t be put back on. If the Chargers win on Sunday, it’ll be heralded as the best decision any Chargers player or coach has made all season. If they lose yet again despite the style change, we can all blame the haircut. Since the hair is gone, the remedy might just be cutting off what little hair he has left. Hopefully he doesn’t take his eyebrows off too.
