At least 3 children fatally shot during July 4 celebrations

Two children in Chicago and one in D.C. were killed Saturday during a spate of shootings across the country during Fourth of July celebrations.

Davon McNeal, 11, was fatally shot in the head in Washington, D.C., around 9:20 p.m., according to officials.

Police are still investigating the shooting, but Police Chief Peter Newsham said several men opened fire.

“A mother lost her 11 year old son to gun fire tonight,” Mayor Muriel Bowser tweeted. “My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family.”

DC Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for the shooting.

In Chicago, a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed in Englewood in a shooting that killed four and left another four injured. He was hit in the back and pronounced dead at Comer Children’s Hospital, according to ABC 7.

Natalia Wallace, 7, was shot in the head in South Austin, a Chicago neighborhood, around 7 p.m., according to the Chicago Tribune.

“Natalia was a very quiet and sweet little girl,” her school, Crown Community Academy of Fine Arts, said in a statement.

“She completed every assignment during class, got along with all of her peers, and colored the most precious pictures ever given to me. Natalia never hesitated to ask for clarity when needed. Sometimes, her quiet spirit gave her the strength to lead the reading lessons within her group, and she soared when it came to doing math. During e-learning, Natalia was always present and participating. At the end of each class session, she would type in the chat box, ‘I Love You.’”

Police said three men got out of a white vehicle and fired at least 20 rounds at Natalia and her family, who were celebrating outside her grandmother’s house.
