Lowes to deliver $1 million worth of flower baskets to isolated moms
Lowe’s will donate and deliver $1 million worth of flower baskets to isolated mothers and grandmothers.
The novel coronavirus pandemic has made it impossible for some families to honor Mother’s Day in person this year, so Lowe’s hopes the pick-me-up will show moms some much-deserved appreciation while stimulating local economies.
Over 500 long-term care and senior living facilities in more than 10 cities, including New York, Seattle and Houston, will receive the baskets. The flowers will arrive in the days leading up to the holiday. Each basket is individually wrapped and includes a special note from the company.
“Mother’s Day is a special time of celebration between mothers, grandmothers and their children. And our hearts go out to the millions of families nationwide who won’t be able to be with their loved ones this year,” said Marisa Thalberg, Lowe’s executive vice president, chief brand and marketing officer, in a press release.
“We hope that these flower deliveries, made possible by our network of local nurseries, will bring a spark of joy to the moms and grandmothers in senior housing who may feel alone this Mother’s Day,” Thalberg continued.
As part of the effort, Lowe’s sourced the flowers from local nurseries and growers to help small businesses. It will also support earnings for the Uber drivers who deliver the flowers.
“These local small businesses are the backbone of our garden centers, and we are eager to continue investing in their long-term success,” said Bill Boltz, Lowe’s executive vice president of merchandising.
The Mother’s Day initiative is a part of Lowe’s $250 million commitment to Covid-19 relief, which also provided special payments to associates and allocated $3 million to aid small businesses.
