Jacqueline Towns — mother of Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns — has died after battling coronavirus.

The Towns family announced the news Monday, calling Jacqueline “an incredible source of strength.” The family also thanked all the medical workers at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and JFK Medical Center who “fought for Jackie day in and day out.”

Jacqueline battled coronavirus for over a month. She and Towns’ father — Karl — both got sick around the same time. Towns’ father was placed in quarantine, but his mother’s condition got worse. In March, Jacqueline was placed in a medically-induced coma. At that time, Karl-Anthony Towns revealed his mother’s diagnosis. In a message, he urged others to take the virus seriously and stay inside to protect others.

In 2016, Towns paid tribute to his mother in a birthday message on Instagram, calling Jacqueline, “the rock of our family.”
