Draymond Green may have outdone himself Thursday night. He at least gave LeBron James, who didn’t play, a good laugh as the Lakers superstar watched from the bench.
The Golden State Warriors forward was ejected from a game against the Los Angeles Lakers with 5:45 to go in the second quarter after picking up two technical fouls in 11 seconds. The Warriors lost, 116-86, and the Lakers were all laughs.
So was the NBA on TNT crew in the studio.
Green hit with 2 technicals in 11 seconds
Green, who missed the two previous games with a pelvic contusion, got called for a foul under the basket with 5:56 to play when Dwight Howard backpedaled into him and the two got tangled up on the way to the floor. He let official Tyler Ford know his displeasure and got the first technical call.
The second came about 11 seconds later. Green appears to have his leg out to trip Howard. He, of course, let the refs know about that one, too.
And he was promptly sent off in a five-point game that could have gone differently.
Barkley gets in jab on NBA on TNT
Green had two points, four assists and four fouls in 10 minutes. That elicited a joke and more laughter from the NBA on TNT crew during halftime.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged after the game losing Green was a massive hit.
"We needed him in the second half," Kerr said, via ESPN. "We missed him out there."
The Lakers held a slim 54-52 lead at half, but outscored the Warriors, 40-17, in the third.
Green now has 14 technical fouls for the season. Two more will get him an automatic suspension.
James tries to hide laughter at ejections
James was on the bench Thursday while dealing with a sore groin. He traveled with the team and got in a good laugh at Green’s expense.
Best not to let them see you laugh at them.
