Kobe Bryant to be inducted into Hall of Fame in 2020 class

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has honored many NBA greats, and in August they’ll enshrine someone that was gone far, far too soon.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Kobe Bryant will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as part of its 2020 class. Bryant was killed along with his daughter Gianna and seven others in a helicopter crash on Sunday.

Bryant was part of the 2020 class of nominees that was announced in December, which includes Muggsy Bogues, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Tim Hardaway. In light of Bryant’s death, the Hall of Fame is bypassing the normal election process and making him the first inductee of the 2020 class.

The rest of this year’s Hall of Fame class will be announced in early April.
