President Trump lashed out at the decorated diplomats who were poised to testify Wednesday on the first day of the historic impeachment hearings as partisan enemies.
Without offering any evidence, Trump suggested that Ambassador William Taylor and George Kent are his implacable opponents.
“NEVER TRUMPERS!” Trump wrote on Twitter as lawmakers arrived on Capitol Hill.
Ironically both men were appointed by Trump acolyte Mike Pompeo and there is no indication they are opponents of Trump.
Taylor is a decorated Vietnam War veteran and longstanding diplomat. He was asked to come out of retirement to become America’s top envoy to Ukraine after Trump fired Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch.
Kent is a top State Department official for Europe. He found himself increasingly elbowed out of policy toward Ukraine as Trump pushed a shadow diplomatic channel led by Rudy Giuliani that was designed to get Ukraine to launch bogus investigations of Democrats.
