Stephen Curry suffers broken left hand in collision vs. Suns
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry left Wednesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns after an ugly fall.
The Warriors later announced that he suffered a broken left hand.
General manager Bob Myers told NBC Sports’ Kerith Burke that Curry will have a CT scan on Thursday to determine if surgery is necessary. His timeline to return is unclear.
Baynes fell on top of Curry after hard collision
The injury occurred when he collided with Suns center Aaron Baynes, who fell on top of Curry when he hit the floor.
Curry grimaced in pain and clutched his left wrist before getting up and walking to the locker room. Curry also rolled his left ankle on the other end of the floor on defense before grabbing the rebound to start the fast break.
The injury occurred in the midst of a brutal stretch for the Warriors, who watched the Suns go on a 21-0 run in a first quarter they ended with a 43-14 lead.
The Suns held an 83-54 lead when Curry left the game and went on to a 121-110 victory. Reality was already sinking in for a Warriors franchise that compiled an 18-2 record against the Suns during its run of five consecutive Western Conference titles.
Bad to worse for Warriors
Golden State was off to a 1-2 start on the season that included a 141-122 home loss to the Los Angeles Clippers to christen the newly opened Chase Center and a 120-92 loss on the road to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
With Curry on the floor, they were already getting blown out against a franchise that they’ve dominated for five seasons that’s missing one of its top players in suspended center Deandre Ayton.
With a long-term injury for Curry, things are obviously only going to be tougher for Golden State.
