After eight weeks of NFL action, the defending champions in New England are still the favorite to hoist the Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl LIV in Miami this February — but the competition at the top is stiff.

A knee injury suffered by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes seemed to take away Tom Brady and company's biggest roadblock within the AFC. The NFC, however, features several powerhouse teams that, should they make it to the big game, could take the Patriots down.

The San Francisco 49ers are among those contenders and join New England as the only remaining undefeated teams halfway through the regular season, though they aren't the NFC team with the best odds at winning the Super Bowl.
