Carjacking suspect steals cop car in wild police chase

A carjacking suspect was arrested on Wednesday in California, after authorities say he stole two cars — the latter of which was a police cruiser.

The jaw-dropping helicopter footage acquired by Inside Edition starts out showing a man and his passenger stealing a Toyota Tundra at gunpoint after they had crashed their own vehicle. Police say that the man was being chased because he had initially assaulted an officer while being questioned about driving under the influence.

The suspect then drove the truck 110mph away from police, only to mess up a turn and then crash again.

Running away on foot, the man noticed an abandoned California Highway Patrol (CHP) car that had been left running, and hopped in. CHP Officer Monique Mischeaux had no idea how the man was able to get the car to keep going without access to the car's keys.

After a 20 minute chase, the suspect's wild escape came to an end when he was cornered in the cruiser trying to return to the main road. He was promptly arrested.
