Daniel Jones says Eli Manning was 'nothing but supportive' after quarterback change

The new starting quarterback for the New York Giants has received a huge vote of confidence from the man he replaced.

Daniel Jones spoke to the media for the first time as the team's starter on Wednesday and explained that Eli Manning has been "nothing but supportive" since news broke that he was being benched in favor of the rookie.

"As anyone who knows Eli would expect, he was nothing but supportive of me," Jones said, praising his now-backup.

"I understand the circumstance and it's a difficult one, but he was very supportive of me. He's been that way since I've gotten here."

The Giants made the decision to move on from Manning as a starting quarterback shortly after the team's Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills, which dropped them to 0-2 on the season. Manning has been the regular starter for New York since November of 2004, winning two Super Bowls in the process.

"You never really know when something like this is going to happen," Jones, who was drafted No. 6 overall in 2019, said of the change. "My job was to be ready."

Manning said he knew the move "was a possibility," but that he hopes to "make the best" of his new role.

Jones will make his first start for the Giants against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
