Woman detained in Philippines after airport security finds 6-day-old baby in her carry-on bag

A woman is being held in the Philippines after allegedly trying to sneak a baby through airport security.

Jennifer Talbot, an American citizen, was caught with the child in her hand luggage at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Wednesday, according to CNN Philippines. The baby was just six days old.

Security footage released by the nation's Bureau of Immigration shows Talbot standing in the security line before she was apprehended. She can be seen holding a large handbag, which allegedly contained the child.

Talbot, who claimed to be the child's aunt but has not yet provided evidence that they are related, was attempting to board a Delta flight bound for Detroit. The child did not have a passport or any sort of documentation.

Security workers at the airport's check-in and immigration counters did not notice the baby at first, according to the Philippines' National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Apparently, Talbot managed to make it all the way to her gate before she was caught.

"She hid [the baby] at check-in and when she passed immigration counters, and then at the other x-ray to the boarding gate, then she showed it. That’s the time we were able to apprehend her — when she passed through the next x-ray," Medina told NBC News.

Talbot is being investigated for child trafficking charges. Authorities say they will reveal more details at a press conference Thursday.
