Colts unveil Lucas Oil Stadium banner thanking Andrew Luck after retirement
A piece of news as league-altering as the shocking retirement of Andrew Luck will leave a number of unusual questions in its wake.

Among the more awkward questions facing the Indianapolis Colts was what to do with the large Andrew Luck banner that hangs outside Lucas Oil Stadium, alongside those of T.Y. Hilton and Adam Vinatieri.
Leaving it could have angered and saddened Colts fans entering the stadium with a painful reminder of what they aren’t paying to see. Removing and replacing it could have been expensive and seen as an awkward attempt at erasing the quarterback’s importance.

The Colts decided to do something a little more subtle.

The Lucas Oil Stadium Twitter account posted a picture of the Luck banner’s new look on Thursday, showing a “Thank you for the memories” message sprawled across it.

That’s probably as good as the Colts were going to do in that situation. Fans were never going to forget what happened with Luck, so this is at least a way for the team to frame his visual presence at the stadium in a positive light.
While the last few years were beyond hard for Luck, he retired as one of the most universally respected players in the game and one of its top players as well. In the six seasons over seven years he played in Indianapolis, Luck notched four Pro Bowl honors and a Comeback Player of the Year award while leading the Colts to two division titles and four playoff berths.
Memories like that of Luck as a player could prove significant for another question that will face the Colts down the line: Whether or not to induct Luck into their Ring of Honor.
