Man kills wife, mother-in-law, 3-year-old twin daughter in murder-suicide, one child survives: Police

A Florida father shot and killed his wife, mother-in-law and one of his 3-year-old twins before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide on Sunday night, leaving one toddler as the sole survivor of the bloodshed, authorities say.

Pablo Colon Jr., 35, fatally shot his wife, 36-year-old Sandra Colon, her mother, 61-year-old Olga Alvarez, and one of his toddler daughters in the family's home in Pembroke Pines, located within the gated residential Grand Palms community about 20 miles north of Miami, according to police.

Colon called 911 around 8:30 p.m., saying he had murdered multiple family members and "intended to end his own life," ABC News reports.

Around the same time, one of Colon's cousins also called 911 to report the suspect had called him to confess the crime, saying he "had to do it" and that, "You would see them in heaven."

Responding officers with the Pembroke Pines Police Department discovered four bodies inside the home, as well as one surviving but injured 3-year-old girl. The child was hospitalized following the incident but has since been released and is said to be in the care of one of her cousins.

Relatives of both deceased parents crowded into a Florida courtroom Tuesday on behalf of the little girl, to the amazement of Broward County Judge Shari Africk Olefson, WPLG reports.

"I can't tell you how many children come through here and have no family show up," said Africk. "To see this is really wonderful because the child is going to need it."

The incident remains under investigation. Colon's motive remains unknown and authorities say he did not leave a note behind.
