Photos show gruesome moment spider devours large bat

A Texas woman came across a gruesome scene when she left her house and found a large bat trapped in a spiderweb.

Annette Alaniz Guajardo sent WTVD disturbing photos of the incident, which took place outside of her Poteet home last Wednesday.

"On my way to work yesterday morning I saw this on the side of our house," she wrote on the station's Facebook page. "Came home from work that day and the bat was dead."

Images show the bat stuck in the web as a yellow garden spider climbs on top of it.

The yellow garden spider is an orb-weaving arachnid that can be found in the United States, Canada and Central America, according to the National Wildlife Federation. It primarily feeds on flies, bees and other flying insects.

In June, an Australian captured a similarly terrifying image a ski lodge of a huntsman spider devouring a baby pygmy possum.
