Report: David Ortiz released from Boston hospital

Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz, who suffered a gun shot wound on June 9 in the Dominican Republic, has been released from Mass. General Hospital, ESPN’s Marly Rivera and Enrique Rojas report.

The report states Ortiz was released and returned home on Friday.

Rivera adds:

David Ortiz was released from the hospital yesterday, a source close to the family told ESPN. Ortiz will continue his rehabilitation at home, where he will be closely monitored by full-time nurses and will be visited regularly by his personal physician.

Ortiz underwent a first surgery in the Dominican Republic immediately after being shot in the lower back at a Santo Domingo nightclub. His gallbladder and parts of his liver and intestines were removed during the six-hour procedure.
