Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst speaks on the migrant crisis: 'I've slept on a floor before'

Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst was "enraged" by a recent viral video of an attorney arguing that immigrant children being held in detention centers at the United States border with Mexico did not need beds, soap, or toothbrushes and toothpaste in order to maintain safe and sanitary conditions.

Kryst, an attorney from North Carolina, spoke candidly about the footage and the ongoing crisis at the nation's southern border to AOL's In The Know.

"As a lawyer, I took an oath, and part of my oath was to uphold and defend the Constitution and the laws of my state," Kryst said. "Sometimes you do need to take your attorney hat off and just look at things from a larger perspective."

The widely circulated video features judges questioning an attorney, who Kryst said seemed to have no logical argument against providing basic hygienic products to children in the detainment facilities.

The viral clip has since racked up nearly 22 million views on Twitter alone.

Kryst also emphasized her belief that immigrants crossing the border into the United States should be treated the same as American citizens, because "they want to come here for the same reasons that we are here."
