Tedy Bruschi 'doing much better' days after suffering stroke
Former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi is “doing much better” after suffering a stroke the morning of July 4.
Bruschi shared the update on his Instagram page Monday with a graphic of the warning signs of a stroke from his nonprofit, Tedy’s Team.
The “Be Fast” mnemonic helped Bruschi, 46, and his wife, Heidi, diagnose his stroke so they could immediately call 911 for an ambulance. Bruschi said he lost use of his left arm and was slurring his speech. Heidi noticed his face drooping on the left side.
Bruschi, who now works as an analyst for ESPN, suffered a mild stroke in 2005 at the age of 31 while still playing for the Patriots. It happened after his third Super Bowl title with the team and his first trip to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
The couple did not know the warning signs of a stroke at the time and Bruschi later told the Boston Globe he thought the medical emergency only happened to older people.
The Bruschi family created Tedy’s Team in 2005 to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of a stroke and to break the stigma around it.
