DeMarcus Cousins sent this text to his teammates before Game 2

Updated

DeMarcus Cousins wasn’t much of a factor in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, as the All-Star big man played just eight minutes. It was his first game back since suffering a leg injury in the opening round win over the Clippers.

Game 2 went differently. Cousins was one of the best players on the floor, pouring in 11 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists.

“He was great. We came in thinking, all right, he can maybe play 20 minutes, and he gave us almost 28,” head coach Steve Kerr said. “There was only one time in the game when he needed a rest, which was mid-fourth, and we gave him a couple minutes and then got him back in the game. But he was fantastic, and we needed everything he gave out there — his rebounding, his toughness, his physical presence, getting the ball in the paint and just playing big, like he does. We needed all of that. So I thought he was fantastic.”

Cousins' teammates trusted him to deliver when they needed him to and he didn’t disappoint.

According to a report by The Athletic, discussed on ESPN’s The Jump on Monday, Cousins sent a text message to all of his teammates before Game 2.

The message: I’m healthy, you have to trust me.

Cousins’ teammates are certainly trusting him now.

With Kevin Durant likely still out and Klay Thompson dealing with a hamstring injury, Cousins could be relied on even more in Game 3.

Game 3 is set to tip off at 9 p.m. E.T. on Wednesday.
