Tennessee man sentenced to 10 months in jail for urinating on cereal conveyor belt

A man who recorded himself urinating on a conveyor belt at a Kellogg cereal factory in Memphis, Tenn., several years ago was sentenced to 10 months in prison last Friday, the New York Post reports.

In 2014, Gregory Stanton, then a contract worker, recorded a video of himself urinating into a bucket and dumping its contents into a Raisin Bran production line. A month later, he recorded a video of himself urinating on the assembly line. The videos were purportedly shot around the same time Kellogg and the workers union had an intense labor dispute, according to WREG.

Two years later, the second video Stanton recorded was uploaded by WorldStarHipHop.com, a popular content-aggregated blog. Upon learning about the incident, Kellogg issued a statement to the station, condemning Stanton for the reckless act.

"Kellogg takes this situation very seriously and we were shocked and deeply disappointed by this video that we just learned of yesterday," the statement read. "We immediately alerted law enforcement authorities and regulators. A criminal investigation is underway as well as a thorough internal investigation."

Stanton was indicted by a grand jury last September on one charge of tampering with a consumer product. He pleaded guilty in November.

In addition to serving time in jail, Stanton must also pay $10,000 in restitution, U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant said in a press release obtained by Commercial Appeal.

"American citizens and consumers rely upon food manufacturers engaged in interstate commerce to provide them with safe and consistent products," Dunavant said. "Unfortunately, this defendant betrayed that trust by tampering with and tainting food products."

"We commend the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for their investigation in this matter, and we are pleased that the defendant has been held accountable for his criminal conduct," he further said.
