Massachusetts man puzzled after someone broke into his home and cleaned it

A Massachusetts man was left utterly confused after someone broke into his home and, rather than burglarize the residence, cleaned it, NBC News reports.

Nate Roman of Marlborough told the news outlet that he returned home with his 5-year-old son on May 15 when he realized that the back door was open. As he inspected his house for signs of a robbery, Roman said he noticed the smell of bleach and other cleaning solvents.

"Nothing was damaged, nothing was taken ... just arranged in a really creepy way," he said.

Roman added that his son's room, which had been left messy that morning, was organized nicely — the toddler's bed was made. The toilet paper in Roman's bathroom was also adorned with a "very neatly folded rose."

"I was immediately worried that someone was in the house," he said.

Roman told NBC that he called police as a precaution, but a spokesman for the Marlborough Police Department said that authorities had no leads on the case.

Though Roman admitted that he was rattled by the incident, he believes a housecleaner may have mistaken his home for a client's. In a Facebook post, he told friends and family that it was also possible that he had forgotten to lock his back door and turn on his house alarm.

"My best theory at this point is that a housekeeping service accidentally went to the wrong address," Roman wrote. "It's still weird and creepy AF. No idea what to think about this."

Still, the father made light of the situation.

"There's chance they'll come back tomorrow, they didn't finish the kitchen," he joked to one commenter.

The unusual incident comes just weeks after an Ohio woman broke into a stranger's home, cleaned the dishes and left. She was arrested on a burglary charge.
