Virginia man crushed to death after sheet of glass falls on top of him

A Virginia man was killed last month when a sheet of glass he was loading onto a truck fell on top of him and crushed him to death.

Damarcus Laquan Calloway, an employee of Virginia Glass Products in Ridgeway, died on April 22 following a tragic accident at his place of work, the Martinsville Bulletin reports.

Henry County Sheriff’s Capt. Wayne Davis told the outlet that the 24-year-old victim "sustained trauma" when "several, several hundred pounds" of plate glass fell on top of him and pinned his body to the ground.

First responders attempted to treat Calloway's severe injuries at the scene before he was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist in North Carolina where he was later pronounced dead.

His death is being treated as an accident, and Davis said the sheriff’s office is not conducting a criminal investigation.

However, two branches of the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry have opened investigations into the incident in order to "determine compliance" and "issue citations if they are warranted."

News of Calloway's death comes on the heels on another tragic workplace death, where a Pennsylvania woman was killed after falling into a commercial meat grinder.
