A Missouri man accused of flashing a laser pointer at New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady during the AFC championship game at Arrowhead Stadium in January has been cited.

Via the Associated Press, prosecutors on Tuesday said 64-year-old Dwyan Morgan of Lee’s Summit faces a single count of disturbing the peace, which is a municipal violation.

The charge is punishable by up to a year in jail or a fine up to $1,000. Morgan is scheduled to appear in municipal court on July 17.

The Chiefs have already banned Morgan from Arrowhead Stadium for life.

The team and the league began an investigation after William Joy, a reporter from Kansas City television station KMBC, began tweeting video clips the day after the AFC title game that showed a green laser moving on the side of Brady’s helmet, his facemask and on his jersey.

Joy and the cameraman found at least three incidents of the laser pointed at Brady.

In a worst-case scenario, lasers can cause damage to eyes, and at minimum can serve as a distraction, which is why they’ve long been banned at sporting events. Many are so small they’re easy to hide in a pants or jacket pocket.
