A Pennsylvania woman who hid several bags of heroin inside her body tried to destroy the evidence by attempting to eat seven of them after the police pulled her car over, according to Lancaster Online.

Tiffany Leigh Root, 29, was stopped by Lancaster police for a traffic violation late Tuesday night. When officers noticed an open prescription bottle on her lap, they asked to search her car. Root consented and admitted to hiding controlled substances in her body and down her pants.

Police took Root to Lancaster General Health Hospital to have the drugs removed. En route, she attempted to get rid of some of the heroin by chewing and eating several bags. The medical staff, however, convinced her to spit out the bags and eventually discharged her.

In addition to the heroin, officers found 15 suboxone pills and over 70 other pills without a prescription. An electronic scale, two boxes of glassine bags, a number of baggies, a cut straw and $907 were also recovered.

Root was later charged with seven counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence and driving with a suspended license. She is currently held at Lancaster County Prison. Bail was set at $150,000.

A passenger in Root's car, 32-year-old Thomas Seymour, was also arrested for possession of suspected heroin. Police turned him over to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office for a bench warrant.

Root was previously arrested in 2017 on charges of public intoxication after she allegedly caused a disturbance inside a business and walked into traffic, police records show. She was later released to a friend.
