Exactly a week after being shipped to Cleveland, the star receiver posted an unforeseen message to Instagram detailing his intent to abandon the platform for the foreseeable future.
The post, deleted just hours after hitting the web, was placed below a black image, and is an anomaly among the wide array of photos and photoshop illustrations Beckham is accustomed to sharing with his 12.8 million followers.
The message read: “P.S.A. I love you all so much, for the ones that follow and support I thank u all for that. I’m takin an emotional, mental, physical/ blah blah blah vacation . I appreciate the love honestly but at this moment for the next couple of days I’m goin dark. I won’t be around , phone is gone, with all due respect, please don’t text/ call / FaceTime unless it’s of the utmost importance . I really need some time to vibe and just get away, process, reevaluate some of the things in my life, as much has changed for me recently. I’m doin amazing thanks for askin!!! Im really just tryin to get everything together and gather all my thoughts so I can take the next steps in my life to be the very very very best me moving forward . God bless u all and again thanks for the love and support, I will see u soon.... Always LUVVVVV (peace emojis).”
The post unequivocally refers to last Tuesday’s shocking blockbuster, in which the Giants traded the contentious wideout to the up-and-coming Browns for safety Jabrill Peppers, guard Kevin Zeitler as well as Cleveland’s first- and third-round draft picks in this year’s draft.
A shocked Beckham told NFL Network he felt “bittersweet" after Giants GM Dave Gettleman alerted him of the franchise-altering deal.
But the 26-year-old seemed more enthused a day later.
“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to be part of this organization and the direction they are headed,” Beckham said in a statement issued by the Browns. “I’ve already witnessed the energy fans bring in that city having been to some playoff games at The Q. Browns fans deserve a winning football team. This is a fresh start for me and it’s going to be great to join Baker (Mayfield) and Jarvis on this team. I will always appreciate the opportunity the Giants granted me and I’m thankful to them along with the fans and people in that city for supporting me.
“The Browns are an organization that is moving forward and it’s exciting to be a part of something special that’s in the process of being built. We have a lot of work ahead of us but I really feel like it’s time for the Browns to come together, start winning a lot games and I’m grateful to be a part of that going forward.”

Beckham then issued a farewell to what he called “REAL NYG fans" on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Gettleman desperately tried to defend the trade, as well as the unbeknownst direction he’s taking the club, during a conference call with Giants beat reporters Monday.
“There’s no intrigue, there’s no he-said, she-said, none of that stuff. Odell is a tremendous talent, which made him a valuable asset,” Gettleman said. “With football being the ultimate team game, we turned that fact into three valuable assets, at the very least.”
