Colorado man imprisoned for slaughtering pregnant wife and 2 young daughters details slayings

Chris Watts, imprisoned for life and beyond for snuffing out the lives of his two young daughters and pregnant wife, has provided more details on his motives and methods.

Next week the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to release a video and transcript of an interview authorities conducted with the killer earlier this month in which he gave more details on the killings he confessed to last August.

Watts received three life sentences without eligibility for parole in November after confessing to the August 2018 slayings so as to avoid the death penalty. But authorities and family members had despaired of ever learning why he did what he did.

Watts had lived with his family in Frederick, Colorado after his guilty plea and sentencing on three counts of murder, two counts of murdering a child, one count of unlawful termination of a pregnancy and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body.

The body of his wife, Shanann Watts, was found buried in a shallow grave on Anadarko Petroleum Co. property in November, and those of 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste were found submerged in an oil tank. She had been strangled, and the children smothered, but few other details were available.

“I don’t think he’ll ever answer those questions,” Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke said during a news conference after Watts was sentenced in November, according to The Coloradoan. “I don't think he will ever tell us. I don't think he will give an honest assessment of why he did what he did; how he did what he did.”

But CBI investigators revealed on Thursday that they had interviewed Chris Watts on Feb. 18 along with investigators from the FBI and Frederick Police Department, seeking to further understand what had led to the horrific crimes, according to a CBI news release obtained by The Coloradoan.

The newspaper reported that Watts provided additional information to investigators at that time, according to The Coloradoan. CBI plans to release written and audio files from the conversation late next Thursday, the newspaper said.

"Watts provided investigators with additional information about the murders of Shanann, Bella, and Celeste," the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said in Thursday’s statement, according to ABC News.
