Trump mocks Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal

President Trump on Saturday slammed the proposed “Green New Deal,” recently unveiled by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others.

“I think it is very important for the Democrats to press forward with their Green New Deal,” Trump tweeted. "It would be great for the so-called “Carbon Footprint” to permanently eliminate all Planes, Cars, Cows, Oil, Gas & the Military – even if no other country would do the same. Brilliant!"

The proposal has been received with widespread skepticism given its lofty goals.

A Forbes piece notes, the resolution “calls for a host of policies, including free education, guaranteed jobs, and a nationwide mandate for 100% renewable energy, all within a 10-year plan. All of this may sound great, but like many grand resolutions it lacks specific details and ignores economic reality.”

However, its supporters have defended the seemingly unrealistic objectives.

Presidential hopeful Kirsten Gillibrand recently said: “I believe that global climate change is the greatest crisis that humanity faces and it’s real, something we have to spend our time and effort figuring out how to reverse. I think green new deal is an excellent place to start.”

Senator Cory Booker also expressed his support for the proposal.

“Our planet is in peril, and we need to be bold,” Booker said Friday. “There’s a lot of people blowing back on the Green New Deal. They’re going, ‘Oh, it’s impractical, oh it’s too expensive, oh it’s all of this.’ If we used to govern our dreams that way, we would have never gone to the moon.”
