The Miami Heat announced on Monday that they will retire the No. 1 jersey of forward Chris Bosh.

Bosh played six of his 13 NBA seasons with the Heat, winning two championships alongside Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.

He was an All-Star in each of his six seasons in Miami in addition to his five All-Star nods with the Toronto Raptors.

Bosh joins three other with Heat jerseys retired

Bosh will become the fourth Heat player to have his jersey retired. Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway and Shaquille O’Neal are the others.

Bosh’s career with the Heat got cut short in 2016 when a life-threatening blood-clot condition forced him to quit playing basketball.

Bosh, then still in his prime at age 31, wanted to continue playing, but the Heat declined to run the risk of having him play with the condition, essentially forcing his early retirement.

Bosh, Heat have mended fences

Bosh told The Ringer last spring that he and team president Pat Riley are back in contact after tensions with the team over how his career came to an end.

“Yeah, me and Pat had lunch two months ago,” Bosh said in March. “I mean, look. It’s business. I understand that. I understand the situation that they were in.”

Bosh averaged 19.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2 assists while helping usher in an era of multi-faceted NBA big men able who play inside and out. Bosh sacrificed individual accolades in Miami, leaving his role as the primary option in Toronto to become the third option on the star-laden Heat teams.

The retirement ceremony will take place on March 26 at halftime of a game against the Orlando Magic.
