Stephen Gostkowski dedicates Super Bowl-clinching FG to grandfather, who died day before game
If the 2018-19 New England Patriots had a true championship-clinching moment, it was Stephen Gostkowski’s. It was the 41-yard field goal that sealed a 13-3 Super Bowl triumph over the Los Angeles Rams, and ensured the franchise a sixth Lombardi Trophy.
And for the 35-year-old Gostkowski, it was an extra special moment.
Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Gostkowski played in Super Bowl LIII one day after his grandfather, William Klick, died.

Gostkowski was the game’s highest scorer, making two of his three field goals and his lone extra point. His final kick put the Pats up 10 with 1:12 remaining. And it’s that one he chose to dedicate to Klick after the game.
Gostkowski told Reiss that Klick was “the kindest, funniest man I knew.”
