Toddler puts her hands up for the cops

A video of a little girl surrendering to the police with her hands up is going viral.

Officers in Tallahassee, Florida, pulled over a vehicle that they believed belonged to armed shoplifters. When they asked the two men inside to get out of the truck, they were surprised to find two small children hiding in the back.

Though the 1-year-old remained strapped in his seat, the 2-year-old girl watched intently as her father climbed out of the vehicle, put his hands up and walked towards the police. Then, barefoot in the middle of the street, she mimicked his movements.

A passerby caught the whole thing on film and can be heard having a very strong reaction to the startling sight. "Oh, my God she’s trying to get out! She’s holding her hands up."

Even more disturbing, the woman recording the incident seemed to think that the cops were pointing a gun at the little girl, which is why the video has caused such a stir on social media.

But new police footage shows that the cops actually handled the situation with care, constantly reassuring the toddler that she was fine.

"The reason why he didn’t actually approach the 2-year-old," another officer explained to Inside Edition, "is one, the 2-year-old doesn’t know him and, for any reason, [she] might have run out into traffic."
