President Trump beefs with Nancy Pelosi over Twitter as government shutdown enters 25th day

President Trump traded Twitter jabs with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Tuesday over the crippling government shutdown that’s now in its 25th day.

Trump started off the beef by criticizing Pelosi for collecting a paycheck during the federal closure.

“Why is Nancy Pelosi getting paid when people who are working are not?” Trump tweeted.

Pelosi quickly fired back, noting Trump could end the shutdown immediately by agreeing to sign bipartisan measures that would reopen eight of the shuttered agencies with full spending and bankroll the Department of Justice on a temporary basis.

“Stop holding the paychecks of 800,000 Americans hostage,” Pelosi tweeted, referring to the furloughed federal employees who continue to work without pay or not work at all. “There is no reason for them to be suffering right now. Re-open the government!”

All Democrats and some Republicans back the bipartisan legislation to reopen the government. The compromise bills would give Congress more time to discuss differences on border security spending without holding the rest of the government hostage.

But the funding package has gone nowhere, as Trump continues to refuse to sign any bills that do not earmark at least $5.7 billion in taxpayer cash for the southern border wall he used to promise Mexico would pay for.
