Comey responds to Trump's Twitter attack with FDR quote: ‘Judge me by the enemies I’ve made’

Former FBI director James Comey has responded pointedly to President Trump’s recent round of Twitter attacks on him.

Comey posted a quote by former President Franklin D. Roosevelt Saturday, stating: “I ask you to judge me by the enemies I have made.”

Comey’s message comes just hours after the president began blasting him on Twitter, calling him “Lyin’ James Comey” and “a total sleaze.”

Trump also wrote: “…the FBI was in complete turmoil…because of Comey’s poor leadership and the way he handled the Clinton mess (not to mention his usurpation of powers from the Justice Department). My firing of James Comey was a great day for America. He was a Crooked Cop.”

Trump’s Twitter rant started on the heels of a New York Times report that after Comey’s firing in May 2017, the FBI began investigating “whether [Trump] had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests.”
