Trump says Obama had it 'so easy' due to low interest rates

President Trump on Tuesday asserted it would have been “so easy” for him if interest rates were lower during his presidency.

“Economic numbers looking REALLY good. Can you imagine if I had long term ZERO interest rates to play with like the past administration, rather than the rapidly raised normalized rates we have today. That would have been SO EASY! Still, markets up BIG since 2016 Election!” Trump tweeted.

He has made similar comments before in the wake of the Federal Reserve raising interest rates in the recent past.

“I’m paying interest,” Trump told reporters over the weekend. “I didn’t have funny money to play with. President Obama had zero interest. I have interest to pay. And now, a lot of people that weren’t getting interest in their money for many years — you understand — they’re now actually getting interest on their money.”

“But he was playing with funny money because there was no interest,” Trump added.

However, Trump didn’t mention that Obama faced one of the worst economic times as president and the interest rates were kept low at the time to mitigate the effects of the Great Recession.
