'MAGA' hats signed by President Trump may be a violation of Pentagon rules

President Trump’s surprise trip to see troops in Iraq may have caused some trouble for those he visited, reports CNN.

U.S. soldiers who turned into autograph seekers during Trump’s first war zone visit may be in violation of the Department of Defense guidelines for having their “Make America Great Again” and “Trump 2020” red caps signed.

The guidelines state “active duty personnel may not engage in partisan political activities and all military personnel should avoid interference that their political activities imply or appear to imply DoD sponsorship, approval, or endorsement of a political candidate, campaign, or cause.”

Retired Rear Adm. John Kirby was critical of Trump for politicizing events involving U.S. troops, reacting to Trump’s autograph session on CNN’s “The Situation Room” with Jim Acosta. He said, “It is in-fact a campaign slogan, that is a campaign item and it’s completely inappropriate for the troops to do this. Not supposed to do this and I’m sure that their bosses seeing that, they’re not gonna be happy about it.”

The president has been criticized by some for his address to the troops for appearing to be a rally speech.
