Trump claims only 'Olympic champion' could climb border wall

President Trump on Tuesday boasted about the U.S.-Mexico border barrier his administration is building.

“There may be the case of an Olympic champion who can get over the wall,” Trump told reporters. “But for the most part, you’re not able to do it.”

“It’s going to be 30 feet, much of it is 30 feet high,” Trump added. “Some of it’s lower, but in some areas we have it as high as 30 feet. That’s like a three-story building. So we’re making great progress on renovation, on fixing, and we’re making great progress on building new wall and most excitingly, we gave out our largest section yesterday and that work is starting next week.”

However, in the wake of a partial government shutdown that went into effect early Saturday, much of Trump’s recent remarks have been focused on slamming Democrats over new funding for the border wall.

“Virtually every Democrat we are dealing with today strongly supported a Border Wall or Fence,” Trump tweeted Monday. “It was only when I made it an important part of my campaign, because people and drugs were pouring into our Country unchecked, that they turned against it. Desperately needed!”

And in another Christmas Eve tweet hours later, he wrote: “I am all alone (poor me) in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal on desperately needed Border Security. At some point the Democrats not wanting to make a deal will cost our Country more money than the Border Wall we are all talking about. Crazy!”
