Dez Bryant says he ignored NFL calls until Jay-Z told him to 'Get your ass down to New Orleans'

Dez Bryant’s time in New Orleans ended before he had a chance to take the field when he suffered an Anchilles tendon tear.

According to Bryant, he wouldn’t have given the Saints a chance if not for the nudging of a hip-hop star.

Bryant: Jay-Z pushed me to sign with Saints

Bryant told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas Thursday that he was considering not playing football this season and ignoring his agent Kim Miale’s calls about interested teams until Jay-Z texted him.

“Get your ass down to New Orleans,” Bryant said Jay-Z wrote.

Aside from being a fan of Jay-Z’s music, Bryant is also a client of his sports agency Roc Nation.

It sounds like the disappointment of not being picked up by a team before the season was a grind for Bryant. Of course, Jay-Z hasn’t verified Bryant’s claim, but if he indeed delivered Bryant that message, it was one worth listening to.

Will Bryant return to New Orleans?

While his season ended with disappointment and a nine-month recovery timetable, there’s a chance Bryant returns to the Saints next season if he can recover from his injury. NFL Network reported in November that New Orleans is interested in bringing him back next year depending on his health.

A return would be a tall task for Bryant. Achilles tears are notoriously difficult to recover from, and Bryant was already on his career decline at 30 years old.
