LeBron James’ debut with the Los Angeles Lakers has been one of the biggest stories of the year in the sports world.

But in the James household, the debut of LeBron James Jr. for his new California team is the big headline.

‘Bronny’ makes dad proud with jersey switch

When 14-year-old “Bronny” played his first game for Crossroads School Monday against Culver City Middle School, dad was in the stands. And he revealed on Tuesday that he got a surprise from Bronny.

He had switched from jersey No. 0 to 23 for his new team.

“I don’t know how long it’s going to last but it definitely made me feel proud. My kid has his own personality, has his own DNA. We share the same name, but he has his own path.

“But it was cool when he came downstairs the other day and he showed me that he was wearing 23 and then my youngest son came to me and told me he’s wearing six. So, it’s a really good feeling. … “It’s a proud family going on in our household and I’m a proud dad.”

Bryce James switches to No. 6

Here’s his younger son Bryce sporting No. 6 in a nod to James’ days with Miami Heat.

James told reporters that his family has embraced their new surroundings and experienced jitters normal for anyone in a new environment.

“It was kind of nervous for all of us,” James said. “They laid their uniforms out the night before. They laid their shoes out like the first day of school. It’s a good start for us in a new school, new community, new neighborhood.”

When James watched Bronny on Monday, he got a treat. Bronny dunked for the first time in game competition.
