Report: NFL 'investigation' into Kareem Hunt incident didn't include interviewing Hunt

As we continue to find out more about the February incident between Kareem Hunt, his friends, and a group of young women at a Cleveland hotel, no one involved comes out looking good.

On Sunday morning, that once again includes the NFL.

NFL investigation didn’t include Hunt, accuser

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen, the league conducted an investigation into what happened at The Metropolitan hotel without actually speaking to any of the primary individuals involved.

Citing league sources, ESPN reported that the NFL did not even request an interview with Hunt. The report also said that the NFL reached out to the 19-year-old woman that Hunt shoved and kicked and her companions, but they did not respond.

The league spoke to witnesses, and they said Hunt was not involved in the incident. The release of security footage from inside the hotel by TMZ on Friday showed otherwise.

So clearly the NFL’s investigational skills remain on par with the dim-witted Inspector Gadget. At least Gadget was lovable.

League believes it did everything possible

In response to the allegations about its investigation, the NFL released a statement on Sunday afternoon.

The NFL believes it did everything it could from a legal standpoint; it does not have the authority to subpoena the hotel or police for the security video.

But, as the ESPN report notes, the league had the police report – those are public record. The police report detailed a physical altercation between Hunt, the woman and other individuals, but it did not mention Hunt kicking the woman.

Additionally, the Kansas City Chiefs spoke with Hunt about what had happened, so it stands to reason the league could have, and obviously should have, as well.

Hunt admitted to lying to Chiefs officials about the incident, leading to his being cut on Friday night.
